Alexander Lewis is a storyteller. The stories he tells are of women who are confidently nonchalant, modern and soulful. Women who map fresh connections between old school and new. Women who can move to the samba beat of Lewis’ native Brazil, and who casually embody the tailored elegance of London, where Lewis was trained and now makes his home. For Alexander Lewis’ women, fashion is a lingua franca, and they speak it fluently.
Alexander Lewis has had plenty of practice finding beauty in culture clash. Half Brazilian and half American, he spent his youth crisscrossing the globe: Born in Chicago, schooled in England, university in L.A. Plus lots of trips back to his beloved Brazil, and the family’s holiday home in Bahia, not to mention working as the assistant to VOGUE contributing editor Andre Leon Talley at the forefront of high fashion. Then settling in London where he learned his tailored craft at Norton & Sons and E. Tautz on Savile Row.
In 2012, Alexander returned to his first love, womenswear. His debut collection for Resort 2013 instantly established the Alexander Lewis point-of-view: Razor-sharp tailoring and a fanatical eye for detail, taken from his time on Savile Row, fused with a sexy insouciance all Lewis’ own. Rather than design for fashion seasons, Lewis designs for fashion situations, imagining his women as they set forth into new and exciting experiences. With a focus on knitwear and shirting and well as feminine tailoring, the collection is made in the UK.
Our knitwear is made by hand in Wales using Mongolian Cashmere or Scottish yarns and our shirting is made using the finest English and Italian fabrics.
